The Waterfall Tea Ceremony House reframes the lingering presence that a waterfall leaves upon space; a complex spatial phenomenon of mist, spray, light, color, and airflow, and reconstructs it as a teahouse.

A waterfall is a landscape formed by the descent of water, and at the same time, a presence that generates mist, fragments light, sets the air trembling, and alters the very flow of time around it, creating a singular interval (MA) within space. Here, the boundaries between interior and exterior, visible and invisible, the everyday and the extraordinary, emerge as a fluid and sensory atmosphere.

In this work, the spatial quality of the waterfall is rendered through the lines and voids of diamond-shaped wire mesh. Wire mesh is in its origin an industrial material made to enclose, protect, and divide. Yet, because it is constituted by an accumulation of lines and voids, it carries within it an ambiguity: it is membrane yet permeable; it is present yet absent. These qualities are here reinterpreted as gentle strata: the folds of water, the layering of mist, veils of light.

From the outside, a blue gate-like structure evokes the entrance to a waterfall, drawing the visitor inward. Within, hanging layers overlap one upon another; the hues of yellow, green, blue, orange, and pink drift through the space like light breaking through spray, like the passage of a rainbow. Here, amid transparency and shimmering, one becomes newly conscious of one's own bodily senses, and finds oneself drawn into the landscape itself.

The Japanese tea ceremony house has always been conceived as an enclosed microcosm; a place to clear the mind and sharpen the senses.
While inheriting this primal concept, the space is reimagined as a place in which one quietly situates oneself within a flowing natural phenomenon; enclosed, yet infinitely open.
Embracing both mystical radiance and profound depth, we aspire to realize a teahouse as a spatial instrument; one that finds in the union of silence and dynamic visual experience a means of opening the current of creativity and sensitivity.
